WILLGRESS MARCHES ON AFTER CLASSIC MATCH

Wayne Willgress reached his fourth World Singles quarter final after a Tie Break win against twice former champion Stewart Anderson (Sco).

The large audience in the arena saw a match with twists and turns throughout that went to the very last bowl before a winner was known.

Stewart started well in the first set building up a 4 shot advantage before Wayne fought back to push the set to the wire. With Wayne lying the shot, Stewart attacked and the jack bounced to the large stand side of the rink. In the one bowl drawl battle that followed, Stewart was closest and won the first set 6-5.

The second set saw Wayne take control and he won seven of the eight ends played to run out a comfortable 10-2 winner and force the match into a Tiebreak.

The first end of the Tiebreak was outstanding from both players. Stewart played an inch perfect draw with his third bowl before Wayne nipped the bowl off the jack to have a set winning position. Stewart then repeated his perfect draw to win the end.

In the second end of the Tiebreak, Stewart had two touchers from his first three bowls. With Wayne facing eviction from the tournament he played a perfect backhand runner to ditch the jack and force Stewart to draw within two feet. His bowls came up just short and we moved to the third end.

Stewart pushed his first three bowls just past the jack and Wayne held control with one bowl each to come. The last bowl from Wayne came up just short on the back hand side. Stewart though decided to stick to the forehand side of the rink. When his bowl finished agonisingly on the short side of the shot bowl it was Wayne's turn to celebrate with his crowd.

Wayne moves into the Quarter Finals on Friday and will meet the winner of Mark Royal and Jamie Walker.
