The shocks continued at the Ambassador Cruise Line World Indoor Bowls Open Singles Championship - after the demise of former champions Jamie Walker and Mervyn King it was Nicky Brett who became the third seed to bite the dust in the 1st Round of the event.
Brett came up against his 32 year old English international team mate Martin Heitzman from St Leonards on Sea and was narrowly counted out by one and half sets to a half - 6-6, 8-7.
There was little to separate the players throughout the two set exchange with Brett rolling in back to back singles to finish all square in the first set.
In the second there was never more than a few shots the difference between the players but it was Heitzman who rolled in the match winner with his last bowl to count a double and continue through to the 2nd Round where he will meet Mark Dawes - world number 6 and holder of this title in 2018 and again in 2020 - on Thursday 23rd January at 10am.
