Spalding's Chelsea Spencer claimed the third semi-final berth in the Ambassador Cruise Line Ladies World Matchplay Championships after her 9-5, 11-3 win over Swindon based Lucy Smith 9-5, 11-3.
Spencer, a 31 year old ward sister in the Acute Cardiac Unit at the Pilgrim Hospital, Spalding, Lincolnshire, trailed 3-5 in the opening set, but a procession of six shots over the closing three ends saw her wrap up the set 9-5.
She carried that form into the second set, scoring another six shots over the opening three ends to lead 6-0.
29 year old Smith, who bowls out of the Westlecot club in Swindon and operates a Freelance Marketing for Bowls business, briefly rallied with a treble on the fourth end.
Once again though Spencer went on a scoring spree, counting a 1, 3 and 1 to increase the score line to 11-3 in her favour and with just two ends remaining that meant that Smith was out of contention as the maximum shots she could score would be four on each of the remaining two ends, and that would not be enough to keep her in the frame to win the set.
Spencer will now play the winner of the last match of the day (Sunday 19th January) between another two players who are also making their debut, South Africa's multi-decorated Colleen Piketh or Scotland's Beth Riva. They will meet in the semi-finals on Wednesday 22nd January at 7.30pm.
