SOUTH SHIELDS DUO PAUL HARTLEY AND DAVID BOLT STRIKE FIRST WIN FOR THE 'REDS'

As day 2 of the @Imagine Cruising World Indoor Bowls Pairs Championship unfolded at Potters earlier today, English qualifiers Paul Hartley and David Bolt stuck a blow for the ‘Red’ teams and ended the dominance of the ‘Green’ teams who had won six matches in a row.

The South Shields Vipers duo had to battle over the closing stages of both sets to seal their 11-5, 11-6 victory against USA debutants Scottie Marzonie and Frant Napoli.

They trailed 5-4 after six ends of the opening set, but a magical run of 4, 1 and 2 saw them take first blood 11-5.

In the second, the USA pairing scored a full house of four shots on the fifth end to move 6-5 ahead, but once again Hartley and Bolt rose to the challenge and did the business, wrapping up their straight sets win with a 3, 2 and 1 finish.
