SCOTS PULL OFF A LAST GASP VICTORY AGAINST NEW ZEALAND

DAY 1/ MATCH 2

In a game of two halves, Scottish father-and-son duo Chris and John Carswell got the better of Kiwi duo Colin Rogan and Gary Cotter in the sudden death, three end shoot out to chalk up a 4-9, 9-6, 2-1 victory in the second match of the day in the Imagine Cruising UK World Indoor Bowls Pairs Championship at Potters.

By their own admission, the Scots were outplayed in the first set of the two bowl pairs format, only scoring on two of the nine end set.

In the second set they opened their account with a full count of four shots on the third end, before the North Island duo scored a double to square the match at 4-4.

The Scots rolled in a 1, 3 and 1 which pushed them into a comfortable 4 position with just two ends remaining, and they were content to concede singles and take the set to push the match into a sudden death decider.

Once again there was little to separate both teams and the score was locked at one end apiece. With the match result hanging in the balance, Chris drew the shot with his second delivery and remaining in that until the end, with Kiwi skip Garry Cotter agonisingly missing out on drawing the shot that would have seen them through to the last sixteen stage.

RESULT – Chris & John Carswell (Scot) bt Colin Rogan & Garry Cotter (NZ) 4-9, 9-6, 2-1.
