SCOTS AND WELSH THROUGH TO THE SEMI FINALS

CeriAnn Glen and Stewart Anderson claimed the last semi-final spot in the @Imagine Cruising World Indoor Mixed Pairs Matchplay Championship at Potters tonight after a titanic struggle against English duo Nicole Rogers and Nick Brett, 9-11, 9-3, 2-1.

In a high scoring first set they traded blow for blow and tied at 6-6 after 6 ends.

Glen and Anderson scored a crucial treble on the next end to give themselves a cushion, but Rogers and Brett stormed back with their own treble to once again share the score at 9-9, but they got over the finishing post with a double to win 11-9.

The second set was also a high-level exchange from the first bowl to the very last, but the Glen/Anderson partnership got the nod, scoring doubles on each of the last two ends to win 9-3 and force a three-end decider - much to the delight of the spectators who had enjoyed all the twists and turns in the match throughout the evening.

After two tense shootout ends, the match was all square once again and was decided on the third end.

With match against him Nick smacked the jack out of bounds on the forehand side ditch and it was respotted. Stewart drew one foot behind but with his last bowl Brett fell agonisingly short to leave the Wales/Scotland partnership as the winners.

They now meet Australian Lisa Featherby and local star Mervyn King in the semi-final tomorrow afternoon – Saturday 14th January at approximately 3.45pm.
