The second match of the World Mixed Pairs saw Katherine Rednall and Paul Foster MBE involved in tussle against defending champions Julie Forrest and Nick Brett, as they began their quest for the Ambassador Cruise Linesponsored event.
With eight Mixed titles between them - one for Rednall with Darren Burnett in 2015, three for Foster - winning back to back alongside Laura Daniels from Wales in 2013 and '14 and then made it a third time with Guernsey's Alison Merrien while Julie Forrest and Nick Brett have accumulated four between them. As well as winners last year, Forrest also won with Stewart Anderson in 2021, and Nick came through in 2017 with Scotland's Claire Johnston, and Marion Purcell from Wales in 2020.
In their match Rednall and Foster made the early running, opening out to a 7-0 lead after five ends. Forrest and Brett got on the card with a treble and single, but singles on each of the last two end gave Rednall/Foster the thumbs up.
Only ten shots were scored over the second set but thanks to a magical double on the seventh end to go 5-3 ahead, the Rednall/Foster twosome cut the count for Forrest and Brett to a single on the penultimate end and then in turn they scored the vital match winning single on the last to post a 9-4, 6-4 victory.
Rednall and Foster will now take on Farrah and Anderson in the semi-finals (18th January) at 2pm. Match will be shown LIVE on the WBT Facebook or YouTube Channels.
