QUALIFIER BANKS TAKES OUT THE DEFENDING CHAMPION

Twenty six year old Jason Banks has already been making a name for himself this week after wins over fellow qualifier Darren Weir and the number 16 seed Simon Skelton.

However his win today over defending champion Les Gillett will make many people take note of him as a potential champion come Sunday afternoon.

The first set only saw eight ends played with Les winning the four ends away from the commentary box and Jason claiming the other four. The difference being that Les score 5 shots for his four ends while Jason has a hat trick of threes in a decisive ten shots that took the opening set.

The second set was tighter with Les scoring a three in the third and fifth ends to take a 7-5 lead with three ends to play. The seventh end though proved to be crucial and when Les passed the head with his last bowl it left two feet for Jason to draw and score a full house of four shots. Two ends later it was Jason's first bowl back toucher that saw him claim the set and the match.

Jason's next game will be the Quarter Final match where he will take on Guernsey's Jason Greenslade in the opening match of the day.
