44-year-old Rob Paxton successfully negotiated a 2nd Round place in the @Imagine Cruising World Indoor Bowls Championships, getting the better of Israel’s Noam Yehudai 13-5, 9-5.
Making his debut on the portable rink, Noam, 43, a Technological Supporter, Research and Teaching Assistant and Statistician from the Haifa club, was understandably nervous in his opening exchanges but recovered very well in the second set.
In fact, the Israeli scored on five of the eight ends played, squaring the set at 3-3 after 4 ends and trailing by just a single at 5-6 with two ends to go.
However, while Noam’s counts were all singles - Rob counted trebles and when they were tallied up, Rob put the result out of reach with his third treble of the match on the eighth end to seal his straight victory.
Rob now takes on the winner of the match between England’s Greg Harlow or Jamie Walker.
