NORTH OF SCOTLAND DUO LAND A SEMI FINAL BERTH

NORTH OF SCOTLAND DUO LAND A SEMI-FINAL BERTH IN THE AMBASSADOR CRUISE LINE WORLD OPEN PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP

The new partnership of Garioch's Jason Banks and his North of Scotland team mate Mike Stepney from Elgin, chalked up a further victory in the Ambassador Cruise Line World Indoor Bowls Open Pairs Championship Potters Bowls earlier today, ending the hopes of English duo Les Gillett and local Norfolk bowler Wayne Willgress.

This is the third time that Gillett, who won the title in 2017 with Jason Greenslade, has teamed up with Willgress but once again it wasn't to be for the highly rated English pair with the Scots pulling away from the fourth end in the opening set and scoring on the remaining six ends to put the set to bed at 8-3.

They carried that momentum into the second set, scoring five shots over the opening three ends. Gillett and Willgress responded with a double on the fourth, and added a further double on the sixth end keep the set within reach at 7-4 to the Scots.

However that was as good as it got for the Englishmen as the Scots scored a double and then a vital single that put the set beyond reach at 10-4 with an end to spare.

They now wait to see who their semi-final opponents will be between between Hong Kong's Po Ting Hei/Jason Choi or the England/Scotland partnership of Mervyn King and David Gourlay MBE - who have both won this title three times - but with different partners.
