NICKY BRETT AND GREG HARLOW GET OVER THE LINE AGAINST COUNTRYMEN PAUL HARTLEY AND DAVID BOLT

Twice former winners, Nicky Brett and Greg Harlow kept themselves in contention to regain the World Indoor Bowls Pairs title.

Winners on both occasions – in 2014 and again in 2020 against Paul Foster MBE and Alex Marshall MBE, the highly respected duo won through to the quarter finals after a hard earned 8-7, 8-3 victory over South Shields Vipers team-mates and English qualifiers Paul Hartley and David Bolt.

They were held at 5-5 after six ends of the first set, but Nicky and Greg chalked up a double and single to move 8-5 ahead.

Requiring a treble to share the set, David was a tad unfortunate with his last delivery where he could only muster a double.

Six singles were recorded in the second set, but a treble on the fifth end for Nicky and Greg did the damage and was instrumental in them taking the set 8-3 with an end to spare and see them safely through to a quarter final confrontation tomorrow (Monday 9th January) against Welsh qualifiers Damian Doubler and Dan Salmon.
