English qualifiers Jack Wells and Sam King from Norfolk joined forces for the @Imagine Cruising World Indoor Bowls Pairs Championship and showed that they’re not just here to make up the numbers.
They stood toe to toe against South African qualifiers Gillian Young and Thinus Oelofse who were making their debut in WBT events.
The first set was keenly contested, before a run of four shots over the last three ends pushed the Norfolk twosome over the line at 8-3, but in the second, nothing went rights for the South Africans, and they lost 10-1 to bow out of the competition in straight sets.
Jack and Sam – son of multi decorated, and three-time winner of this title – Mervyn King, will continue their quest for the title when they challenge defending champions and twice former winners Stewart Anderson and Darren Burnett from Scotland tomorrow morning
(Sunday 8th January).
Match Result Jack Wells & Sam King (Eng/Q) bt Gilian Young & Thinus Oelofse (South Africa/Q) 8-3, 10-1.
