Ceri Ann Glen cemented her semi-final place in this year's Imagine Cruising Ladies World Matchplay Singles but had to work hard for her 9-4, 9-7 win over overseas qualifier Guilia Gallo from California.
Welsh born Glen, who, although living in East Calder in Scotland, plays her bowls at the Newport Club and represents Wales in international competitions, is a Risk Manager - Global Markets & Securities, and in the third quarter final of the day she took the first set leading all the way and won 9-4 with an end to spare.
In the second though Gallo, a Senior Data Scientist @ Microsoft, who bowls from the Longbeach club and who has diligently practiced on this portable rink since her arrival at the beginning of the month, got off to a better start.
She led 3-0 after two ends, and 6-5 after seven, but with that finishing line tantalisingly in sight, a determined and focused Glen rolled in a full count of four shots at the crucial time to take a 9-6 lead going into the last where she was content to play covering shots to avoid the scenario of losing the set.
Gallo though played out the end well but could only muster up a single and missed out 9-7.
RESULT - DAY 10 / Match 3 - Ladies World Matchplay Singles
