Hong Kong qualifiers – Ken Chan and Jason Choi took the scalps of defending champions Stewart Anderson and Darren Burnett from Scotland in the first of the @Imagine Cruising World Indoor Bowls Pairs Championships quarter finals earlier this morning. (Monday 9th January)
In the first set the score was shared at 4-4, but the Chinese duo clocked out with a single, double and another single to put their marker down at 8-4.
In the second set the Scots scored a single and double on the sixth and seventh ends to take the lead at 6-5 with two ends remaining, but some brilliant leading by Chan saw the Hong Kong pair count a single to square at 6-6 and leave the match resting on a knife edge last end where a shot for the Scots would force a tie break or a shot for Hong Kong with give them a semi- final berth tomorrow (Tuesday 10th January).
Once again Chan was inch perfect with his two lead bowls to his full-length jack and that left the Scots chasing the head.
Choi played strategic bowls to alley any potential alterations to the head but that possibility never materialised, and the delighted Hong Kong qualifiers celebrated their straight sets 8-4, 9-6 victory.
