GREENS’ CONTINUE THEIR DOMINATION AND CHALK UP SIXTH SUCCESSIVE WIN IN A ROW

The ‘Green Brigade’ continue to run the gauntlet at the @Imagine Cruising World Indoor Bowls Pairs Championship at the Potters International Arena – chalking up their sixth win a row to leave the ‘Reds’ empty handed!


Wearing ‘Green’ today were Aussie Sean Mawdsley and USA’s Neil Furman, and they were made to fight for their 9-8, 3-12, 2-0 victory against Irish stalwarts Mark McPeak and Stuart Bennett.


In the opening set Belfast based McPeak and Bennett set the pace and forged into an 8-5 lead with three ends to play.


However, a double followed by a single, saw the scratch pairing of Mawdsley and Furman square the set at 8-8 scored.


Majestically - Mawdsley played a stunning runner to win the set with his last bowl when he smashed to jack into the ditch to take the all-important count at nip the set 9-8.


A focused run by the Irish duo in the second set, saw them only drop two ends and get over the finishing line 12-3 and square the match at one set all.


But in a nervy match decider the USA/Aussie combo pulled together and came through 2-0 to set up for an enticing head-to-head against Scotland’s Paul Foster MBE and Alex Marshall MBE on Sunday (8th January at 2pm).
