GLORY DAY FOR PLAYERS IN GREEN

DAY 1 / Match 5 (Concluding Match of the day)

After a day of green shirted players winning the first four games, the tradition continued into the last match of the opening day of action in the Imagine Cruising UK World Indoor Bowls Pairs Championships at Potters last night with Perry Martin and Jamie Walker winning a tie break 2-0.

Winners in 2018 and 2021 – Mark Dawes and Jamie Chestney – were also beaten in the final last year by Scots Stewart Anderson and Darren Burnett.

In the last game of action in the opening day of play, the anticipated high quality, all-English exchange did not disappoint either, with Dawes and Chestney taking the opening set 7-2 with an end in hand.

Martin and Walker upped their game in the second set and no doubt on reflection will count themselves fortunate in the closing out of the last end.

Requiring a full house to square the set at 8-8 to win the match by one and a half set to a half, skip Chestney was desperately unlucky not to roll the jack just a few extra inches to secure that necessary count and instead of a count of four, had to settle for a treble.

In the ensuring tie break, Martin and Walker ran out the victors 2-0 to book their quarter final berth on Monday 9th January.

MATCH RESULT - Perry Martin & Jamie Walker (Eng) beat Mark Dawes & Jamie Chestney (Eng) 2-7, 8-7, 2-0
