After a full day of action at the @Potters Resorts, 26 year old Nicole Rogers from Exeter and Nottingham based world ranked number 4 Les Gillett, became the fourth pair to chalk up a victory and complete the Ambassador Cruise Line World Mixed Pairs line up for Saturday's (18th January) semi-finals.
They were pitted against Spalding's Chelsea Spencer and Radcliffe's world number 6 Mark Dawes who made the early running in the first set of the match, stretching out to a 6-1 lead after just four ends.
However the set was turned on its head when the Rogers/Gillett duo strung together eight unanswered shots over the closing five ends to win the set 9-6, and they carried that form into the second set.
They opened up a 5-0 lead after scoring on four of the five ends - with the third end declared a 'no shot' after there was nothing to separate both red and green bowls that were touching the jack.
And over the course of the remaining four ends, both teams scored on two ends, but while the Rogers/Gillett combo counted four shots, Spencer/Dawes couldn't close the gap, only scoring a single and double to miss out 9-3.
Tomorrow's World Mixed Pairs semi finals (Saturday 18th January) will see Katherine Rednall/Paul Foster MBE the first team in action against Farrah/Stewart Anderson at 2pm with the Scottish pairing of Beth Riva/Jason Banks going head to head against their English counterparts Nicole Rogers/Les Gillett at approx 3.54pm.
The first game in the morning at 10am will feature the World Indoor Open Singles champions where 2010 holder Greg Harlow will be his show on the road against Australian qualifier Darren Rowland. There will be NO evening game(s).
