DEFENDING WORLD INDOOR BOWLS PAIRS CHAMPIONS SAFELY NEGOTIATE THE FIRST HURDLE

Scotland’s Stewart Anderson and Darren Burnett safely negotiated the first hurdle in the defence of their @Imagine Cruising World Indoor Bowls Pairs title, with both players producing a solid performance to end the campaign of local hopefuls Jack Wells and Sam King 8-3, 11-5.

In a low scoring first set only three doubles and five singles were recorded, but it was a different story as the second set unfolded with Jack and Sam scoring a confidence boosting, inch perfect treble on the very first end.

It wasn’t long though before the Scots reaffirmed their position and were back in the driving seat, counting a double and a treble to forge 5-3 ahead. The English qualifiers did reply with a single, but once again Stewart and Darren drew on all of their experience, reeling off a 3, 1 and 2 finish to wrap up the set and the match result.

They will now face Hong Kong challengers Ken Chan and Jason Choi in the first of the quarter final deciders tomorrow - Monday 9th January at 9.30am.
