DAWES EASES PAST INTERNATIONAL TEAM MATE

Number 6 seed, Mark Dawes added his name to the list of quarter-finalists who are all lining up in the hope of lifting the Ambassador Cruise Line World Indoor Bowls Open Singles title at Potters Resorts.

He became the sixth player to make it to the last eight stage, ending the run of Bromley qualifier Martin Heitzman, an HR Recruitment Manager from St Leonards on Sea. He posted a 10-5, 9-4 victory.

The scoreline may not show it, but it was a tough two-set match for the England international colleagues.

Heitzman led 5-3 at the four-end stage, but Dawes made his move with a succession of counts, to score seven shots over the remaining five ends - with the shot on the penultimate end tied.

In the second set, Heitzman scored singles on four ends throughout the game, before a treble and three doubles put the result beyond doubt after eight ends, to wrap up a straight sets victory for Dawes, winner of this title in 2018 against Rob Paxton and again in 2021 against Greg Harlow.

His quarter-final opponent will be Paul Hartley from County Durham, and they will meet tomorrow, Friday 24th January at 3pm. Paul is the sole qualifier remaining in the field. He took his place in the Championship after winning the Carlisle qualifier.
