DAWES AND CHESTNEY STAY IN THE MIX FOR A THIRD WORLD PAIRS TITLE

Twice former champions Mark Dawes and Jamie Chestney held off the challenge from qualifiers Sara Nicholls and Ross Owen to stay on course for a third World Indoor Pairs title.

Winners in 2018 and again in 2021, the English duo crashed out in Round 1 last year to Jamie Walker and Perry Martin 7-2, 7-8, 2-0 but this time round they made no mistakes against the Welsh qualifiers.

It wasn't a very happy 30th birthday for student Ross and his Marketing Manager partner Sara - they started well enough but had no answer for the sustained consistency of Accounting Assistant Dawes and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Chestney, who eased through 9-2, 9-3 to book their spot in Monday's quarter finals.
