CUMBRIAN QUALIFIERS DEFEAT AUSTRALIA

In the second match of the opening session, the strong England/Scotland qualifying partnership of Trevor Taylor and Connor Milne proved too strong for the Western Aussie debutants Tamara Arnold and Wesley Neilson 12-2, 9-4.

They only dropped two ends in the opening set, but the Aussie pairing came back in the second. One of only two women in the Open Pairs, Arnold, a 44 year old volunteer bush fire fighter and partner Neilson - stood level at 4-4 after five ends.

However Taylor and Milne put the game to bed with a 2, 1 and 2 finish to wrap up a straight sets victory and secure a second round spot in the opening match tomorrow at 9.30am against former holders Mervyn King and David Gourlay MBE.
